InfraSpec Model EB

InfraSpec VFA-IR Spectrometer,
Model EB

There are three InfraSpec Spectometer models tailored for specific biofuel analyses.  Model E is for non-volatile samples that include biodiesel blend and biodiesel production measurements. Model ES has a sample plate cover to reduce evaporation that can affect the reading of volatile samples such as ethanol in gasoline/petrol or ethanol in water.  Model EB, InfraSpec Biodiesel Detection Spectrometer, is for users wanting to detect ppm levels of biodiesel in diesel.  This includes pipeline operators who are concerned about residual biodiesel getting into their jet fuel shipments or emergency diesel generator operators such as nuclear power plants, who store fuel for years and are worried about bacterial growth clogging their filters.

These spectral range analyzers utilize a linear variable filter and a detector array covering a wavelength range of 5.4-10.8 µm (1850-925 cm-1), giving them the capability to measure more than one component in the biofuel sample (i.e. biodiesel in diesel, ethanol in gasoline/petrol, or water in ethanol).   The advantage of such a filter-based spectrometer is there are no moving parts making it a compact, rugged, portable analyzer that is easy for non-technical personnel to operate on-site or in a lab – at a cost less than other analytical measurement techniques.
