InfraCal Soot Meter
InfraCal Soot Meter
Used in lubrication oil and engine testing laboratories worldwide, the InfraCal Soot Meter provides an easy-to-use ASTM approved test method for percent soot in diesel engine lubricating oils. Results correlate to the TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) reference method and FTIR methods. The Soot Meter is also ideal for truck, bus or off-highway fleets, onboard ships, construction or mining sites and power generation stations. Samples are applied scratch-resistant cubic zirconia attenuated total reflectance (ATR) sample plate and easily cleaned with a cloth or paper towel - no solvents requiring special ventilation or expensive waste disposal or difficult to clean cells. The analysis can be done by non-technical personnel with no formal training.
- Oil testing labs - achieve comparable results to TGA or FTIR in a fraction of the time
- Engine test labs - obtain on-the-spot assessment of the engine test progress
- Fleet maintenance shops - check soot level to know exactly when to schedule oil changes
- Construction or mining sites - stay operational with oil condition checks
- On-board-ship - no need to return to port to monitor oil condition
- Power generation stations - monitor the quality of the lubricating oil without waiting for off-site lab results
The Soot Meter is an easy to use solution for a rapid test of percent soot. If more lubrication parameters are required, please visit the website of Wilks’ parent company Spectro Inc. - Comparing TGA, FTIR and Fixed Filter Infrared Analyzers for Measuring Soot Levels in In-Service Lubricants
Measuring soot in diesel engine oil has become more important as soot levels get higher due to exhaust gas recirculation. As soot is one of the key indicators for the condition of the oil, diesel engine maintenance programs performing regular soot checks can realize cost savings by extending drain periods and reducing used oil disposal
